L’objectif de cet article est de montrer qu’au-delà de la littérature managériale,la notion de gouvernance relève des perceptions, ainsi que des représentations de lasituation économique et socioculturelle qu’ont les acteurs d’une organisation à un momentdonné. Dans cette recherche, la polysémie de ce concept est remise en question au travers dediscours d’étudiants du Burundi, pour en comprendre la portée et les enjeux. Les résultatsde l’analyse de contenu des discours permettent de montrer que le monde lexical relatif à lagouvernance qui émerge du discours de ces étudiants conduit à la décrire plus selon lasituation socioéconomique et politique de leur pays. En d’autres termes, le discours seréfère davantage à l’environnement social, économique, et politique de l’organisationd’appartenance, plutôt qu’aux caractéristiques de la gouvernance soutenues notamment par lalittérature, et/ou le discours managérial. Cette description singulière de la gouvernancerepose en fait la question du discours sur ce concept. En effet, le discours managérial atendance à omettre les particularités socioculturelles dans ce qu’il avance commedéfinitions ou descriptions de la gouvernance. Il faut encore noter que ce discoursmanagérial sur la gouvernance semble avoir un effet instituant le discours scientifique enla matière, et par là même, les dispositifs légaux.This article aims to show that, beyond the managerial literature, the notion ofgovernance is subject to various economic and socio-cultural perceptions and representationsthat organizational actors hold at a specific time. In this research work, we question thepolysemy of this concept through the discourse of Burundian students in order to explore itsrange and stakes. The content analysis of these discourses revealed that the lexical fieldrelated to governance, emerging from those students’ discourses, describes mainly thepolitical and socio-economic situation of the country. In other words, this discourse refersmore to a political, economic or social context than to specific characteristics associatedwith the notion of governance, as described in the literature and/or through managerialdiscourse. This unusual description of governance allows us to question the discourse builtaround the concept. Indeed, when trying to define or describe the notion of governance, themanagerial discourse tends to neglect the particular nature of socio-cultural factors. Andthis managerial discourse about governance is often the authority when it comes to definingthe scientific discourse on the matter and to influencing legal mechanisms
