Le théâtre de Sony Labou Tansi est habité par l’image omniprésente de la mort. Néanmoins, loin de sombrer dans le désespoir et le pessimisme, son écriture théâtrale apparaît comme le lieu d’une prise de parole nécessaire en faveur de la vie, autrement dit comme un acte de résistance : parler sur scène est une réconciliation avec le vivant. Sony Labou Tansi n’a cessé d’exprimer son désir de conjurer la mort par une poétique de la parole expulsée comme une respiration, une parole créatrice de vie, et son théâtre repose sur l’espoir de convertir l’anéantissement de l’esprit et des corps en dynamisme fécond. Il s’agit pour l’auteur de revendiquer le pouvoir de nommer le monde pour le faire advenir.Sony Labou Tansi’s theater is haunted by the omnipresent figure of death. Nonetheless, far from giving in to despair and pessimism, his writing for the stage seems to indicate that the latter is the locale from which he can give voice to a much needed defense of life itself : in other words it is an act of resistance. With his poetic language, an outburst which seems to breathe life into the world, Sony Labou Tansi never ceased to express his desire to fend off death. Uttering his words on stage is an act of reconciliation with the living. This dramatic writing is based on the hope of converting the destruction of the soul and of the body into a new fertile vitality. The author claims the authority to spell out the world and write it into being
