L’objectif de cet article est de saisir, à traversl’analyse croisée des parcoursdes signataires de laDéclaration de Villeurbanne en 1968, l’évolutiondes modes deconsécration des carrières des directeurs duthéâtre public en France entre 1950 et 1990.Devant lestransformations de l’univers théâtral et de sesmodes de hiérarchisation, certainsdirecteursd’établissement ont été en mesure des’ajuster à cause du moment et de leur modeinitiald’entrée dans l’espace théâtral, deleurs dispositions et de leurs ressourcesrelationnelles, tandis qued’autres, pour des raisons symétriquement inverses,n’ont pas étéen mesure de faire le travaild’adaptation et d’ajustement nécessaire pourconserver leurposition dominante. Ainsi, la transformation des formesde socialisation, l’interdépendancecroissante entremembres du champ théâtral, la transformation descritères de reconnaissanceartistique et l’importancegrandissante du positionnement politique et institutionnel desagentscontribuent à disqualifier les carrières marquéespar le travail de troupe et l’actionculturelle et à faireémerger à contrario deux figures incontournables du champthéâtralactuel : le metteur en scène et leprogrammateur.The aim of this article is to understand, through the analysis of thecareers of thesignatories of the “Déclaration deVilleurbanne” in 1968, the evolution of theconsecrationcriterions for directors of French public theatre between 1950 and1990. In viewof the transformations of the theatre field and of itsorganization into a hierarchy, somedirectors have been able to adaptthemselves because of the moment and the way they enteredthe theatrearena and because of their aptitudes and their relational resources,while others,for opposite reasons, have not been able to adaptthemselves so as to keep a dominantposition. Thus, the transformationof socializations, the growing interdependance betweenmembers oftheatre field, the transformation of recognition criterions and thegrowingimportance of political and institutional positioning weremajors factors of the disrepute ofcareers made of troupes experienceand based on popular education principles, while, on theopposite,those phenomenons contributed to the emergence of two majorfigures : the stagedirector and the theatre director.El objetivo de este artículo es comprender, a través deun análisis cruzado de lastrayectorias de los firmantes de ladeclaración de Villeurbanne de 1968, la evolución delosmodos de consagración de las carreras de los directores deteatro público en Francia,entre 1950 y 1990. Frente a lastransformaciones del universo teatral y de sus modosdejerarquización, ciertos directores de establecimientos hanpodido ajustarse en razón delmomento y de su modo inicial deingreso al espacio teatral, de sus disposiciones yrecursosrelacionales, mientras que otros, por razones simétricamenteinversas, no han estadoen condiciones de hacer un trabajo deadaptación y ajuste, necesario para conservar suposicióndominante. De esta manera, la transformación de las formas desocialización, lainterdependencia creciente entre miembros delárea teatral, la transformación de loscriterios dereconocimiento artístico y la importancia creciente delposicionamiento políticoinstitucional de los agentes,contribuyen a descalificar las carreras marcadas por el trabajodelgrupo y la acción cultural, y permiten el surgimiento —acontrario, de dos figurasinevitables del campo teatral actual : el director y el programador
