L’« Institut pour le travail et la santé mentale » d’Oakland en Californie travaille avec les syndicats de la région de San Francisco depuis 1977 sur les problèmes psychiques des membres des syndicats, en particulier sur le stress.L’Institut poursuit principalement un objectif de prévention : on vise à enrayer le stress au travail en en reliant systématiquement les causes à l’organisation du travail et en favorisant une mobilisation collective pour la changer. Ce sont les délégués syndicaux eux-mêmes qui deviennent les promoteurs et les animateurs des groupes sur le stress au travail.Since 1977, the Institute for Labor and Mental Health in Oakland, California, has been working with unions in the San Francisco area. They have been examining the psychological problems of union membres, in particular the problem of stress.The Institute's primary objective is prevention. It aims at alleviating stress on the job by systematically linking the causes of stress to the organization of the work situation, and by stimulating a collective motivation for change. Union representatives themselves become promoters and animators of groups dealing with stress on the job.El "Instituto del trabajo y de la salud mental" de Oakland, California, trabaja con los sindicatos de la región de San Francisco desde 1977 sobre los problemas psicológicos de los miembros del sindicato, en especial sobre los problemas de tensión. El Instituto persigue un objetivo principal de prevención, buscando el controlar la tensión en el trabajo por medio de la búsqueda sistemática de la relación entre sus causas y las formas de organización del trabajo, y favoreciendo la movilización colectiva que pudiera transformarla.
