L’auteur analyse le discours sur les bibliothèques et la lecture publique sous-tendant l’action gouvernementale pendant la Révolution tranquille. Les résultats permettent de comprendre que les finalités de la lecture publique, que l’État entendait confier aux bibliothèques, étaient principalement liées à l’instruction et à l’accès à la connaissance en vue de permettre aux Québécois d’expression française de rejoindre la modernité, tout en s’affirmant au plan culturel.The author analyses the position of libraries and reading as expressed in government decisions taken during the Quiet Revolution. The results allow one to conclude that the objectives of reading, such as the governement intended libraries to exercice, were essentially linked to teaching and knowledge in order that French-speaking Québecers join the modern world and affirm their cultural identity.El autor analiza el discurso sobre las bibliotecas y la lectura pública subyacente en la acción gubernamental durante la Revolución tranquila. Los resultados permiten comprender que la finalidad de la lectura pública que el Estado confiaba a las bibliotecas se ligaba principalmente a la instrucción y al acceso al conocimiento con el fin de permitir que los habitantes de Québec de lengua francesa se unieran a la modernidad, afirmándose simultáneamente en el plan cultural
