L’évolution de l’informatique documentaire au Québec, très peu différente de celle observée au Canada et aux États-Unis, a toutefois suivi l’évolution technologique de la province. Sans être la seule innovation technique de ces dernières années, elle constitue le facteur commun qui a permis une mutation des services documentaires et accéléré l’émergence d’une nouvelle philosophie de l’information. La technologie informatique a subi des changements rapides et continuels lors de la dernière décennie et son implantation a eu des impacts certains sur les ressources humaines, financières et, en définitive, sur les services offerts. Mais cette évolution fut effectuée de façon douloureuse et très morcelée. Elle s’est faite malgré l’absence d’assises et de structure de base pouvant la soutenir à différents niveaux. Malgré tout, la poursuite de la mutation de l’informatique documentaire doit s’inscrire dans le contexte de l’évolution nationale et internationale.The evolution of library automation in Québec, while not differing from that observed in Canada and the United States, is in step with the technological changes in the province. While not the only technological innovation in recent years, it was the unifying force behind the changes in library service and accelerated the emergence of a new information philosophy. Computer technology has undergone many rapid changes in the past decade and its implementation has brought changes to human and financial resources and, ultimately, on the services offered. These changes have occured in a fragmented and painful fashion. They were brought about in spite of the lack of a solid foundation and an underlying structure able to support them at different levels. However, the development of library automation must be placed within the context of national and international development.Aunque muy parecida a la informática documental del Canadá y de los Estados Unidos, la informática documental del Quebec se ha desarrollado conforme a la evolución tecnológica de la misma provincia. A pesar de que no sea la única inovación tecnológica en los últimos años, constituye el factor común que ha permitido una mutación de los servicios documentales y ha acelerado la emergencia de una nueva filosofía de la información. La tecnología informática ha sufrido cambios muy rápidos y continuos en los últimos diez años y su implantación tuvo sin duda algunos impactos sobre los recursos humanos, financieros y en definitiva sobre los servicios ofrecidos en las bibliotecas. Por lo tanto esta evolución fue penosa y fragmentada. Se ha hecho sin consenso y sin estructura de base capaz de sostenerla en diferentes niveles. A pesar de todo, la mutación constante de la informática documental debe inscribirse en el contexto de la evolución nacional e internacional
