Cet article examine les modalités selon lesquelles les diplomaties française et anglaise ont perçu, dans les années 1920-1940, les échanges culturels au sein du monde catholique nord-américain. Alors que le Dominions Office considère que les Canadiens français sont « coupés du monde », la diplomatie culturelle française est davantage soucieuse de soutenir les transferts culturels au sein du catholicisme par le truchement de quelques institutions et de quelques personnalités universitaires. Les échanges culturels, s’ils semblent parfois d’origine strictement ecclésiale ou universitaire, sont assez souvent soutenus par les appareils diplomatiques, en train de forger un élément de leur soft power culturel.This article examines how French and British diplomats have perceived, in the years 1920-1940, cultural exchanges within the North American Catholic world. While the Dominions Office considers that the French Canadians are "cut off from the world", the French cultural diplomacy is concerned to support cultural transfers within Catholicism through some institutions and some academic figures. Cultural exchanges, even if they sometimes seem strictly from ecclesiastical or academic origin, are often supported by the diplomatic apparatus, forging an element of their cultural soft power
