À la suite des travaux du CJDES, la CFCA expérimente le bilan sociétal, outil qui s’inscrit dans les approches du développement durable et vise à évaluer et à présenter la performance globale des entreprises coopératives agricoles. L’auteur s’intéresse aux expérimentations de la démarche dans deux coopératives, une coopérative laitière de l’ouest de la France et une coopérative d’approvisionnement du Lot. La mise en oeuvre du bilan sociétal telle qu’elle est préconisée par la CFCA a été accompagnée d’une enquête auprès d’administrateurs, de salariés de la coopérative et d’élus représentant le territoire. Cette enquête, conduite par les administrateurs eux-mêmes dans l’une des coopératives afin de renforcer leur participation au dispositif, révèle la coexistence de conceptions différentes de la coopérative, portées par quatre types d’administrateurs. Elle montre également un rapport ambigu au territoire alors que celui-ci pourrait prendre une importance stratégique pour les coopératives.Following the work of the Confédération des jeunes dirigeants de l'économie sociale (CJDES), the Confédération française de la coopération agricole (CFCA) has been experimenting with the social audit, a tool in sustainable development approaches which has been used to assess and explain the overall performance of agricultural cooperatives. The author looks at the experiments with the social audit in two cooperatives—dairy cooperative in Western France and a cooperative supplier in the Lot region. The implementation of a social audit according to the CFCA's guidelines was accompanied by a survey of the cooperative's directors and employees as well as local elected officials. The survey, which was conducted by the directors themselves in one of the cooperatives as a way of getting more involved in the process, revealed the coexistence of different conceptions of the cooperative held by four types of directors. It also revealed an ambiguous relationship with the local community which could have a strategic importance for cooperatives
