Bien que l’année 2012 marque le dixième anniversaire de la « naissance » de la « santé mentale » dans le Code du travail français, ce concept n’est toutefois pas nouveau pour les professionnels de la santé au travail. Ce fut réellement la Loi de 2002, dite de modernisation sociale, qui a propulsé sur le devant de la scène de l’entreprise la problématique de la santé mentale au travail, communément appelée « RPS » (risques psychosociaux). Véritable problème sociétal, les risques psychosociaux impactent directement le bien-être des travailleurs. Pourtant, ces risques sont particulièrement difficiles à appréhender par les acteurs de l’entreprise, tant par leur hétérogénéité (les RPS recouvrent diverses réalités quant à leurs effets sur la santé) que par leurs caractères subjectifs (l’évaluation du risque relève de la perception que tout un chacun peut avoir) et plurifactoriels (les RPS sont à l’interface de l’individu et de l’organisation de travail).While the year 2012 heralds the 10th anniversary of the « birth » of « mental health » in France’s Labour Code, the concept itself is nothing new to workplace health professionals. It was truly the so-called Year 2000 Social Modernization Bill (free translation) that was said to have catapulted centre stage business’s issue of mental health in work places, commonly referred to as psychosocial risks (PSR, in French : risques psychosociaux ou RPS). Truly a societal issue, the psychosocial risks directly impact workers’ well being. Yet these risks are particularly difficult to apprehend by business managers, whether owing to their heterogeneity (PSRs cover various realities with regard to their effects on health) or to their subjective characteristics (since risk evaluation depends upon the varying perceptions from one person to another) and multifactorial processes (PSRs are found in the interfacing of an individual and how work is organized)
