Cet article rapporte les résultats d’une recherche touchant les phénomènes favorables à l’autonomie économique des personnes peu scolarisées, dans le cadre d’une pratique d’alphabétisation et dans une perspective de prise en charge individuelle et de transformation sociale. L’expérience décrite et analysée tente de relever le défi des conditions structurelles de l’exclusion des personnes peu scolarisées par la mise sur pied d’activités économiques placées sous leur responsabilité. Le processus de recherche a d’abord conduit à recadrer la notion d’insertion, puis à identifier quatre dimensions de l’alphabétisation s’inscrivant dans cette perspective : pédagogique, politique, économique et personnelle. Sur le plan de la recherche, l’observation systématique des sujets, associée à une analyse qualitative des verbalisations obtenues dans des entrevues semi-dirigées, a permis d’identifier les principes d’action susceptibles d’amener les participantes et les participants à développer une certaine autonomie économique.This article reports on the findings of a study on the phenomena that foster the economic independence of low-schooled individuals, in the context of literacy work and taking the perspective of individual empowerment and social transformation. The experiment described and analysed is intended to meet the challenge presented by the structural conditions that exclude low-schooled individuals, by setting up economic activities under the individuals' responsibility. The research process led first to a reframing of the concept of insertion and then to the identification of four dimensions of literacy teaching under this reframed perspective:  pedagogical, political, economic, and personal. Systematic observation of the research subjects, joined to a qualitative analysis of verbalizations obtained from semi-directed interviews, resulted in the identification of principles for action likely to conduce to participants' developing a degree of economic independence
