À partir d’une méditation concernant divers genres et modes pouvant être choisis pour la représentation de personnages considérés comme hautement historiques par un peuple, voire plusieurs, voire dans l’imaginaire mondial contemporain, et compte tenu, aussi, du projet créatif entrepris par un auteur ou l’autre, cette étude en vient à analyser, dans Un dimanche au cachot de Patrick Chamoiseau, la figure de Victor Schoelcher, en relation aux autres personnages de l’oeuvre, en particulier ceux de L’Oubliée et de Caroline. Proéminente est ici la question qui, née d’une analyse de l’oeuvre, révèle des rapports étroits entre esthétique, politique, et éthique.Based on Patrick Chamoiseau’s Un dimanche au cachot (“One Sunday in jail”), this article analyses Victor Schoelcher’s character in relation to other persons in the story, namely L’Oubliée (the Forgotten One) and Caroline. This analysis relies on a meditation on the various genres and modes available to depict historical figures deemed strongly so by a people, a group of societies or even in today’s global viewpoint. This analysis also draws on an author’s creative process, the uttermost question being the close interplay between aesthetical, political and ethical considerations
