L’antiphonaire d’Hubert Aquin donne corps, d’une manière paradoxale, à une poétique du silence, et ce par le truchement du personnage essentiellement muet de Jean-William Forestier. Ce faisant, le romancier surmonte la principale aporie rencontrée par sa réflexion théorique du début des années 1960 : le silence, envisagé de longue date par celui-ci comme posture politique dictée par la situation québécoise, pourrait ainsi déboucher sur autre chose qu’un retrait de la littérature. Mais la figure de Jean-William sert aussi à thématiser dans la diégèse une possession que Christine Forestier, principale narratrice, désigne comme principe organisateur de son écriture « désordonnée ». Cette figure sera mise en rapport avec les zâr de Gondar étudiés par Michel Leiris ainsi qu’avec le personnage d’Hamlet. On en conclura que L’antiphonaire est une Apocalypse au sens de Derrida, et qu’il explicite, pour Aquin, une manière de réconciliation avec la possibilité de la littérature.Through the character of Jean-William Forestier, who is essentially mute, Hubert Aquin’s L’antiphonaire gives body, paradoxically, to a poetics of silence. Here the novelist overcomes the chief aporia encountered by his theoretical thinking of the early 1960s: silence, which he had long seen as the political position dictated by Quebec’s situation, might now lead to something else than withdrawal from literature. But the figure of Jean-William is also a way of thematizing in the diegesis a possession that the chief narrator, Christine Forestier, describes as the organizing principle of the “disorganized” writing. A connection is made between this figure and the zars of Gondar, studied by Michel Leiris, as well as the character of Hamlet. It is concluded that L’antiphonaire is an Apocalypse in the Derridean sense, and that it explicitly provides Aquin with a way of becoming reconciled with the possibility of writing.L’antiphonaire (El Antifonario), de Hubert Aquin, da cuerpo, de forma paradójica, a una poética del silencio, y ello a través del personaje, esencialmente mudo, de Jean-William Forestier. Con ello, el novelista supera la principal aporía encontrada por su reflexión teórica de principios de los años sesenta: el silencio, considerado desde hace mucho tiempo por éste como postura política dictada por la situación quebequense, podría desembocar así en algo que no fuera una retirada de la literatura. Pero la figura de Jean-William sirve también para tematizar, en la diégesis, una posesión que Christine Forestier, principal narradora, designa como principio organizador de su escritura ‘desordenada’. Se pondrá esta figura en relación con los zar de Gondar, estudiados por Michel Leiris, así como con el personaje de Hamlet. De ello se puede concluir que L’antiphonaire es un Apocalipsis en el sentido de Jacques Derrida y que, para Aquin, explicita una forma de reconciliación con la posibilidad de la literatura
