Cet article discute les représentations de la pauvreté recueillies à partir d’unoutil d’éducation populaire auprès de 21 hommes en situation de pauvreté fréquentant uncentre communautaire à Montréal. En plus de cerner plusieurs dimensions significatives de lapauvreté, les résultats montrent comment les regards de ces hommes sur leur situationpeuvent interpeller les représentations sociales couramment véhiculées à leur sujet. Cetterecherche qualitative et participative, faisant appel au point de vue de personnes ensituation de pauvreté, utilise une approche de plus en plus valorisée tant au Québec qu’àtravers le monde.The notions of poverty held by 22 poverty-stricken men who frequent a communitycentre in Montreal were identified using a tool for popular education. In addition toshedding light on important aspects of poverty, the results show how the views held by thesemen about their own situation can in fact influence the social representations commonlyconveyed regarding their situation. As a qualitative and participatory research project, thestudy focuses on the viewpoints of people suffering from poverty – an approach that isbecoming increasingly attractive in Quebec as well as throughout the world
