Vincent Lemieux définit et interprète les réseaux sociaux à l’intérieur d’une typologie réseaux/appareils. C’est par rapport aux appareils que se comprennent les réseaux (et réciproquement). Cette approche a le mérite d’élargir la compréhension des réseaux sociaux en ouvrant l’analyse sur une sociologie des institutions. Elle laisse cependant peu de place à l’explication des changements.
