Les concepts d’économie sociale, d’économie solidaire et de tiers secteur ont été proposés ces dernières années afin de rendre compte de la prolifération de pratiques économiques alternatives, principalement dans le domaine de la prestation de services. Cet article se penche plus précisément sur la pertinence du concept d’économie sociale, ainsi que sur les potentialités transformatrices des moyens mis en oeuvre par un tel mouvement social. L’auteur défend la thèse que ce double questionnement renvoie bien plus au domaine du politique qu’à celui de l’économie.The concepts of social economy, solidarity economy and third sector have been put forward in recent years in order to account for the proliferation of alternative economic practices, mainly in the area of service provision. This article looks more specifically at the relevance of the concept of social economy and discusses the transforming potential of the means adopted by this kind of social movement. The author argues that this dual line of questioning has much more to do with the realm of politics than that of economics.Los conceptos de economía social, de economía solidaria y de tercer sector han sido propuestos estos últimos años a fin de dar cuenta de la proliferación de las prácticas económicas alternativas, principalmente en el dominio de la prestación de servicios. Este artículo, precisamente, se inclina más sobre la pertinencia del concepto de economía social que sobre las potencialidades transformadoras de los medios puestos en práctica por este movimiento social. El autor defiende la tesis diciendo que este doble cuestionamiento, corresponde más que todo al dominio de la política que al dominio de la economía
