Le flou conceptuel qui entoure la définition de la jeunesse pourrait bien être le fait d’une transformation en profondeur des rapports d’âge dans nos sociétés. Un aperçu des représentations de la jeunesse des dernières décennies pourrait aider à mieux percevoir celles qui ont cours en ce moment et qui contribuent à la régulation des rapports d’âge. La périodisation des représentations montre la transformation de ces rapports, qu’il s’agisse de la ségrégation des âges jusque dans l’après-guerre, de l’affirmation de la jeunesse par la suite, de la résurgence de classes d’âge au milieu des années 1970 jusqu’au tournant du siècle ou du retour de l’acteur aujourd’hui.The conceptual fuzziness around the definition of youth could well be the effect of a transformation in the depth of age relations in our society. A look at the representations of youth in recent decades could help us to better perceive those which hold sway today and which contribute to the regulation of age relations. The périodisation of representations demonstrates the transformation of these relations through the age-segregation of the immediate postwar period, the subsequent affirmation of youth, the resurgence of age categories from the middle of the 1970s until the turn of the century, and today's return of the subject
