Parmi les diverses pratiques connues sous le terme d’écriture intime, celle de Claude Gauvreau entretient un rapport complexe à l’épistolaire et à l’autobiographie. À partir d’une réflexion portant sur l’interdit posée par Muriel Guilbault peu avant la mort de Gauvreau et les enjeux autobiographiques présents dans le roman moniste Beauté baroque, l’auteur analyse la place que le « secret » occupe par la suite dans la correspondance échangée entre le poète et Borduas. Examinant les conséquences découlant de la rupture par Gauvreau du pacte de confidentialité qui fait passer un document privé de Borduas dans la sphère publique et la nature de « l’étrange querelle » — selon les termes de Jacques Marchand —, qui conduit les deux hommes à interrompre leurs échanges, l’auteur interroge l’effet de cette loi de l’interdit sur la diffusion de l’oeuvre de Gauvreau, longtemps limitée à un cercle d’initiés, et dont seule l’édition posthume de ses écrits pouvait dénouer l’insoluble paradoxe.Among the various practices known under the term of intimate writing, Claude Gauvreau maintains a complex relationship with epistolatory writing and autobiography. Beginning with a reflection on the forbidden as posed by Muriel Gudbault shortly before his death and the autobiographical stakes present in the monistic novel Beauté baroque, the author analyses the place the "secret" subsequently holds in the correspondence shared between the poet and Borduas. By examining the consequences ensuing from Gauvreau's rupture of the confidentiality pact, which caused a private document of Borduas to be circulated in the public sphere, and the nature of the "strange quarrel", the author questions the effect this law carries on the circulation of Gauvreau's work, which was long limited to a circle of initiates, meaning that only the posthumous publication of his writings could resolve the insoluble paradox
