Préoccupée par une problématique d’abandon des doctorants au moment de la rédactionde la thèse, nous nous sommes penchée sur l’accompagnement des directeurs, qui inclut lesoutien de la cohérence textuelle. Nous nous sommes demandé en quoi les échanges langagiersélectroniques favorisent l’instauration de la continuité référentielle et de la progressionthématique. Nous avons référé aux concepts d’accompagnement et d’interaction ainsi qu’auxfacteurs de cohérence textuelle. L’échantillon est restreint à un directeur de thèse et sescinq doctorants. Nous avons repéré les traces électroniques des interactions langagières etexaminé comment celles-ci supportaient la mise en place de la cohérence. Une analyse desinteractions discursives a été réalisée. Les résultats vont en ce sens : les échangesportant sur la continuité référentielle et la progression de la thématique sont nombreux etles rétroactions soutiennent l’apprentissage progressif de la cohérence textuelle; lesdoctorants sont amenés à faire des liens entre la partie théorique, d’une part, et l’analysedes données et les ajustements de raisonnement, d’autre part.Based on our concern for the number of doctoral students who abandon their programat the thesis writing stage, we focused our research on the academicsupport given by supervisors, in particular concerning textualcoherance. We examined the way in which electronic communication aids in thedevelopment of reference continuity and thematic progression. We referredto concepts of academic support as well as textual coherence. The study wasrestricted to a doctoral supervisor and five doctoral candidates. We tracked the electronicinteractions and examined how they facilitated the students’ development of textualcoherence. An analysis of discursive interactions led to the following results: exchangesfocusing on referential continuity and thematic progression were numerous,as was feedback supporting the students’ deepening understanding of textual coherance. Thedoctoral students in question were guided to make connections between the theory and theirown data analysis as well as to make adjustments to their scientific reasoning
