L’école francophone en milieu minoritaire a pour défi essentiel de favoriser la constructionlangagière, identitaire et culturelle de ses élèves ainsi que de nourrir en eux un sensd’appartenance à la communauté minoritaire et un sens d’engagement dans son développement.Dans cette perspective, cet article examine d’abord les composantes de la constructionlangagière, identitaire et culturelle. La construction langagière représente le processusqui favorise le développement de la langue comme outil d’apprentissage, de communication, destructuration de la pensée et de construction de référents associés à la langue et à laculture, qui permet l’instauration d’un savoir-devenir francophone. La constructionidentitaire, elle, permet de développer une représentation de soi, de l’autre et de sacommunauté, ainsi qu’un sens d’appartenance à la communauté francophone. La constructionculturelle, enfin, représente le processus de développement d’une manière d’être, de penseret d’agir propre à la personne et, en même temps, propre à son groupe social. En milieuminoritaire, il est extrêmement important que ces trois domaines de construction, qui sevivent en interaction avec les autres et l’environnement, conduisent à l’établissement, enfrançais, de rapports à soi, aux autres et au monde. L’article rassemble ensuite lescomposantes de la construction langagière, identitaire et culturelle en une représentation,structurée en fonction des six dimensions identitaires de l’école orientante proposées parBégin, Bleau et Landry (2000), et qui fait voir la dynamique intégrative qui les relie. Untel cadre conceptuel peut être envisagé comme un référentiel permettant de développer desapproches éducatives favorisant un cheminement identitaire francophone des élèvesfréquentant les écoles de la minorité linguistique. L’article pointe, en guise deconclusion, quelques pistes de travail, qui touchent entre autres à l’analyse et surtout àl’élaboration de programmes d’études propres aux écoles francophones en milieu minoritaire,soucieux de développer chez les élèves un processus de construction langagière, identitaireet culturelle.An essential challenge of francophone schools in a minority setting is to fosterlanguage-, identity-, and culture-building in the students while nurturing in them a senseof belonging in regard to the minority community and a sense of commitment to itsdevelopment. Working from this perspective, this article begins by examining the componentsof language-, identity-, and culture-building. Language-building is the process that fostersdevelopment of language as a tool of learning, communication, thought-structuring, and thebuilding of referents associated with the language and culture, thus laying the groundworkfor developing a francophone savoir-devenir (theability to visualize oneself in a francophone future). Identity-building is the means bywhich individuals are able to develop a representation of self, of others and of theircommunity along with a sense of belonging to the francophone community. And finally,cultural-building is the development process of an individual’s way of being, thinking andacting that is particular both to the individual and to the social group to which he or shebelongs. In a minority setting, it is extremely important that these three areas ofbuilding—which are experienced interactively with other people and with one’senvironment—lead to establishment of a way of relating, in French, to oneself, to others andto the world at large. The article goes on to combine the components of language-, identity-and culture-building into a single representation, which is structured according to the sixdimensions of identity in a guidance-oriented school, as proposed by Bégin, Bleau and Landry(2000), and which shows the integrative dynamic that ties them together. A conceptualframework such as this can be envisioned as a reference system for developing educationalapproaches that foster pathways of francophone identity-building among students attendingthe schools of the linguistic minority. By way of a conclusion, the article indicates a fewpossible courses of action that touch on (among other things) analysis and (above all)development of curricula particular to French-language schools in a minority setting thatwish to develop in students a language-, identity- and culture-building process
