Très longtemps négligé, le livre de piété a pourtant été, à partir du milieu du XVIIe siècle, une arme essentielle de la pastorale catholique permettant de développer une approche individualisée de la foi. L’étude des exemplaires aujourd’hui conservés dans les bibliothèques des séminaires nous fait découvrir les trois dimensions de l’imprimé de dévotion : une activité économique majeure ; un message spirituel adapté ; les formes d’appropriation de la part des lecteurs. La popularité de ces ouvrages autorise également les comparaisons entre ce qui était lu au Québec, en Lorraine et en Savoie entre 1650 et 1840. Apparaissent alors les contours d’une personnalité religieuse régionale.For a long time neglected, the book of devotion was nevertheless, from the middle of the XVIIth century, an essential weapon of pastoral catholic allowing to develop an individualized approach of the faith. The study of copies today preserved in the libraries of the seminaries makes us discover three dimensions of the printed matter of worship: a major economic activity; an adapted spiritual message; the forms of appropriation on behalf of the readers. The popularity of these works also authorizes the comparisons between what was read in Quebec, in Lorraine and in Savoy between 1650 and 1840.
