L’utopie, en tant que lieu d’enquête philosophique ouartistique, crée l’image d’un futur parfait. Or, sur scène, lareprésentation de l’utopie est cantonnée par la réalité quel’événement théâtral se déroule dans un « présentappuyé », celui du public et des interprètes. Donc, si le théâtre ne peutfaire abstraction de la présence physique du corps du comédien lors de lareprésentation, ses mouvements, ses gestes et sa voix sont des lieuxd’enquête importants au moment d’analyser l’utopieet ses manifestations scéniques. L’auteur analyse les stratégiesscéniques exploitées par les comédiens et rattachées à la notion del’utopie, des stratégies utilisées par ces derniers pour évoquerl’avenir. Elle étudie également l’idéal proposé par Tchékhovd’un théâtre international, compréhensible par n’importe quelpublic, peu importe ses origines linguistiques ou nationales. Des exemples seronttirés de la production Le château séveille : essai d’un drame rythmé / The CastleAwakening (1931). Cet article s’attaque donc à ladéfinition du « futur » dans une pratique artistique enracinéedans le présent et la notion des normes esthétiques et des fonctions del’idéal représenté.Utopia, as a philosophical or artistic experiment, creates the image of an idealfuture. On stage, the representation of utopia is restricted since in theatre,everything happens in the actors' and the audience's "here and now". Thus, iftheatre cannot overcome the semiosis of the actor's body in the space and time ofhis/her performative activity, the question of how an actor renders "future" onstage through his/her movements, gestures, and voice remains one of the essentialissues in bringing utopia to life on stage. This present paper examines the issuesof utopian performatives in theatre and methods used when modeling the notion of"future" through acting. It analyses Michael Chekhov's vision of an internationaltheatre comprehensible for any member of the audience of any national or linguisticorigin as a utopian construct drawing upon the example of the 1931 Paris productionof Le château s’éveille : essaid’un drame rhythmé / The Castle Awakening. Thispaper thus addresses both the problems of defining "future" in an artistic practicethat exists in the "here and now" and the aesthetic norms and functions of the idealrepresented
