Ce travail tente d’éclairer quelques problèmes théoriques touchant àla comédie comme genre dramatique. Pour définir la« généricité » de la comédie, il retrace dans un premier tempsl’histoire d’une tradition critique mal connue :celle qui consiste à reconstruire la Cômôdia fantôme d’Aristote à partir d’uneextrapolation symétrique de la poétique de la tragédie. L’enjeu del’étude consiste ensuite à comprendre si cette poétique reconstituée esttechniquement viable, c’est-à-dire si les divers critères génériquesainsi élaborés sont compatibles entre eux. En les couplant deux à deux, ons’aperçoit que ces contraintes génériques de la comédie ont des intérêtsstrictement inverses : plus une comédie met en oeuvre une contraintedonnée, moins elle est à même d’appliquer les autres. Cette étude essaiede tirer les conséquences de ce paradoxe générique, notamment sur le systèmearistotélicien global : il semble qu’il ne soit pas possible,dans l’optique d’Aristote, d’écrire une Cômôdia dans des conditions satisfaisantes desystématicité avec la poétique de la tragédie.This article attempts to shed some light on theoretical problems concerning thecomedy as a dramatic genre. In order to define the "specificity" of this genre, thisstudy begins by sketching out the background of a poorly known critical tradition,more precisely the reconstruction of Artistotle's ghost, the Cômôdia, starting with the symmetricalextrapolation of the poetics of tragedy. The crux of the argument lies then in theviability of this reconstructed poetic, that is to say, whether or not the differentgeneric criteria thus worked out are mutually compatible. In combining them two bytwo, it can be noticed that the generic constraints of the comedy are strictlyinversed; the more a constraint is applied in a comedy, the less other constraintswill apply. This study attempts to identify the consequences of this genericparadox, especially in terms of a global Aristotelian system. It does not seempossible, in the light of Aristotle, to write a Cômôdia which conforms to the system set out in his poetics oftragedy
