À l’heure actuelle, la formule théâtre-cirque fait les beaux joursdes nouveaux cirques. Au Québec cette formule n’est pourtant pas sinouvelle puisque les premiers cirquesvenus au Bas-Canada mêlaient déjà les deux genres. Bien entendu, les spectacles descirques d’aujourd’hui sont loin d’être identiques àceux d’autrefois, mais force nous est d’admettre que lemétissage a subsisté. Rappelant l’histoire, cet article fait quelquesrapprochements entre le théâtre et le cirque au Québec. Il révèle également quel’un et l’autre ont des orientations communes plus que jamais.The interaction between theatre and circus today greatly contributes to thesuccess of the new circuses. However, in Quebec, that relationship is not reallynew seeing that the first circuses thatcame to Lower-Canada in the eighteenth century already integrated the two art forms.Of course, today's circus shows are different from the ones presented in the 1800s,but we have to admit that the integration of the two genres has persisted. Lookingback at the history of the circus, this article studies a few aspects of therelationship between theatre and circus in Quebec. It also reveals that one and theother share orientations now more than ever
