Dans cet article, nous analysons les données d’une étude ethnographique menée lors du Congrès mondial acadien 2004, un événement touristique d’envergure mondiale, dans le but de décrire les tensions idéologiques que soulève la mondialisation dans la définition de l’identité acadienne. Nous constatons que l’émergence de politiques publiques visant la commercialisation de l’identité acadienne sur le marché mondialisé est à la source de conflits quant aux critères d’inclusion au sein de l’espace discursif acadien. D’une part, un groupe d’acteurs modernisant tient à reproduire une Acadie linguistique, visant l’institutionnalisation d’espaces publics francophones où la pratique du français sert de critère déterminant dans l’inclusion dans l’acadianité. D’autre part, des acteurs mondialisant cherchent à exploiter le critère généalogique pour vendre l’acadianité à un public mondial ainsi défini comme acadien. Cette deuxième stratégie met le bilinguisme de l’avant comme moyen d’inclure les Acadiens anglicisés et les Cajuns. Nous en concluons qu’il importe, pour saisir les enjeux que soulève la mondialisation pour les minorités linguistiques, de comprendre les conditions économiques et les cadres de gouvernance qui sont à la base des changements que nous avons pu observer dans les discours et dans les pratiques.In this article, we analyze ethnographic data collected during the Congrès mondial acadien 2004, a globlalized tourist event. We describe the ideological tensions raised by globalization in the redefinition of Acadian identity. We observe that the emergence of public policies aiming at the commodification of Acadian identity for global markets is a source of conflict about the criteria for inclusion within Acadian discursive space. On the one hand, a group of modernizing social actors aims to reproduce a linguistic Acadie, targeting the institutionalization of francophone public spaces where the practice of French acts as a determinant factor for inclusion into Acadianité. On the other hand, globalizing actors try to mobilize a genealogical criterion to sell Acadian identity to a global public thereby defined as Acadian. This second strategy places emphasis on bilingualism as a mean for the inclusion of English-speaking Acadians and Cajuns. We conclude that in order to grasps the stakes of globalization for linguistic minorities, it is important to understand the economic conditions and the government frameworks which inform the transformations we were able to observe in discourse and practices at the Congrès mondial acadien 2004
