Cet article vise à démontrer que les projets de développement économique caractérisés par un partenariat entre autochtones et non-autochtones qui voient le jour actuellement au Québec n’ont rien de nouveau lorsqu’ils sont situés dans une perspective historique. En effet, ils s’inscrivent dans une dynamique de partenariat qui remonte aux premiers contacts et qui n’a été interrompue que durant quelques décennies au mitan du xxe siècle, dans le sillon de la Grande Dépression. Après avoir brossé un portrait de la participation des autochtones dans l’économie nationale jusque dans les années 1920, il sera question de l’impact de la Grande Dépression sur les différentes économies autochtones de la province et des facteurs qui ont contribué, par la suite, à marginaliser ces derniers sur le plan économique.This paper intends to demonstrate that the current joint projects in economic development between Native peoples and the Québec society are not as original as they are often presented. In a historical perspective, they are only the last manifestation of a pattern of collaboration which goes back to the early days of the contact and was only interrupted for a short period following the Great Depression. First, the form of Native participation in the Québec economy until the 1920’s will be presented, followed by a discussion about the impact of the Great Depression on the different Native economies in the province and about the factors responsible for the subsequent economic marginalization of the province’s Native peoples
