Le sens de la dichotomie openfield/bocage est réinterprété à partir de l'exemple du contact entre le Pays de Bray et le Vexin normand. Les anciennes théories déterministes sont démenties par la mise en place progressive des paysages clos, de la fin du Moyen Âge à l'époque moderne.
