Un survol rapide de la carte du Québec nous révèle la popularité de l'usage des noms de saints dans la dénomination des entités géographiques. Un relevé systématique des hagionymes a été effectué à partir des données préalablement recueillies lors d'inventaires choronymiques de trois portions du territoire québécois : le canton de Bagot au Saguenay, la basse-vallée de la rivière du Gouffre dans Charlevoix et une partie des comtés de Bellechasse et de Dorchester. Cette étude n'a pas la prétention d'expliquer tout le processus hagionymique ayant marqué la toponymie du Québec. Toutefois, une phénoménologie commune aux trois secteurs, différenciés à la fois dans l'espace et le temps, nous permet de tirer quelques conclusions. Ainsi, on remarque la relative pauvreté des noms de saints véritables par rapport à ceux provenant de premiers colons ou de personnages éminents. L'origine de la dénomination varie d'autre part suivant le type d'entité représentée, qu'elle soit administrative, cadastrale ou autre. Il existe deux processus de formation des hagionymes : l'un simple, c'est-à-dire où on ne retrouve que le nom du saint lui-même, l'autre complexe, c'est-à-dire où l'hagionyme s'accompagne d'un désignatif de localisation. L'hagionymie, par sa nature, peut donc apporter des éléments à la connaissance d'un aspect de la psychologie sociale du Québec.Aquick overview of the map of the province of Quebec reveals the popularity of the use of names of saints in designating geographical entities. A systematic survey was undertaken taking data gathered previously in three choronymie inventories of widely separated sections of Québec : Bagot township in the Saguenay, the lower valley of Rivière du Gouffre in Charlevoix County, and a part of the counties of Bellechasse and Dorchester. This study does not offer an explanation of why the hagionymic process is so marked in the toponymy in Quebec. Nevertheless, a common phenomenology in all three sectors, differentiated in time and space, allows us to draw certain conclusions. For example, the relative paucity of actual saints names compared to the names of the first colonists and eminent persons can be noted. The origin of the designation varies according to the type of entity represented, be it administrative, cadastral or other. There are two processes in the formation of hagionyms : the simple one where the saint name itself is found alone and the complex one where the hagionym is accompanied by a locational designation. By its nature, hagionymy can contribute to the knowledge of an aspect of social psychology in Québec
