Situated in the Middle North on the Eastern shore of Hudson Bay, this 100 k m 2 sector is made up essentially of Archaeani granite presenting small platforms and ridges culminating between 30 and 85 m (100 to 250 f t) . Mean altitude is about 58 m (175 f t) . Geomorphological features (ridges, orientation of the higher hills, lake alignment, etc.) follow two main directions, N 60° E and N 110° E. Most frequent diaclases point to N 30° E, N 110° E and N 170° E. Many characters of the watershed System are given. : density 1,1 k m / k m 2 , preferential stubs orientation N 125° E — N 305° E, large number of lakes, etc. Glacial grooves hâve a remarkably constant direction (about N 295° E). If there has been a change in the direction of the successive glacial flows, it was from the NW to the WSW. Glacial imprint is evident, but Tyrrell Sea action is spectacular. Glacial deposits hâve been reworked by the sea ; hence shreds of washed moraines, block fields and block strings, sand deposits (Great Whale River delta, shore dunes). On the Great Whale River shore (10 km from its mouth), a polished and striated marine clay, whose shells hâve been C 14 — dated (4000-4500 BC), is covered by bottom moraine.
