Cette étude approche les caractéristiques singulières par lesquelles une lettre de Robert Antelme, longtemps inédite, nous paraît annoncer la possibilité d’une conception autre de l’écriture. Par contraste avec la tradition littéraire dont elle se détache, la prise de parole qu’elle autorise scrute un horizon inédit au-delà d’une limite de l’humain que le xxe siècle semble léguer en héritage à tout écrivain. Par ce témoignage, toute initiative de dire assume la nécessité d’une paradoxale dignité de l’écrit. Le dépassement de la littérature peut désormais s’entendre comme indice privatif (l’a-littérature) d’une esthétique d’abord comprise comme soma. Plusieurs motifs l’attestent, à entendre comme un défi qu’il faut assumer ou indûment méconnaître : précarité de la parole, recul de la présence, épreuve de l’impudeur. Mais surtout, par l’exemple que lui confère Antelme, le questionnement de la limite, ou son savoir tacite, s’érige en titulature de tout geste d’écrire digne de ce nom.This study focuses on the singular characteristics whereby a letter from Robert Antelme, long unpublished, appears to herald the possibility of another conception of writing. In contrast with the literary tradition from which it breaks away, the letter employs a discourse that scrutinizes what lies beyond a limit of the human, which is the twentieth century’s apparent legacy to every writer. Thanks to this testimony, each initiative to speak out assumes the need for a paradoxical dignity of the written word. This transcending of literature can henceforth be seen as a privative sign (aliterature) of an aesthetic understood first and foremost as soma. Several motifs attest to it, seen as a challenge that must be taken up or ignored: the precariousness of speech, the distancing of presence, the ordeal of shamelessness. But above all, the questioning of the limit, or its tacit knowledge, sets itself up as the titulary of every act of writing worthy of the name
