Les conséquences du vieillissement démographique pour la demande d'hébergement eninstitution seront sans doute importantes. Nous avons estimé cette demande future enfonction de l'évolution de certaines caractéristiques socio-démographiques des aînés dedemain. Établies à partir d'une analyse multivariée (modèle logit), nos projectionsdémontrent la nécessité d'une approche qui tient compte du renouvellement des générationsparmi l'effectif des personnes âgées. En effet, ces dernières seront demain fort différentesdes générations actuelles. Leurs caractéristiques socio-démographiques auront un impact surle risque d'hébergement en institution et donc sur la proportion et le nombre de personnesâgées hébergées en institution. De plus, il est probable qu'elles seront en mesure dedéfrayer une part plus importante des frais reliés à leur hébergement. Certes, l'arrivée desbaby-boomers au sein des 65 ans et plus contribuera à alourdir le fardeau del'institutionnalisation. Cet article apporte toutefois des nuances importantes sur l'ampleurdu phénomène.The consequences of population ageing on the dernand for institutional lodging willundoubtedly be considerable. We have estimated this future demand in relationship with theevolution of certain socio-demographic characteristics of tomorrow's elderly. Based on amultivariate analysis (logit model), our projections will demonstrate the need for anapproach which takes into account the replacement of generations amongst the ranks of agedpersons. In fact, in future the latter will be appreciably different from today'sgenerations. Their socio-demographic characteristics will have an impact on the risk ofliving in an institution and, thus, on the proportion and the number of institutionalizedelderly people. Furthermore, they will probably be in a position to be able to contributetowards a greater portion of the costs of institutional living. Certainly, the burden ofinstitutionalization will be further weighed down by the arrival of the Baby Boomers intothe 65 years and over age bracket. This article nevertheless distinguishes some significantnuances within the scope of this phenomenon.Las consecuencias del envejecimiento demogràfico sobre la demanda de alojamiento eninstituciones seran sin duda considerables. Hemos reàlizado una estimation de esta demandaenfunción de la evolution de ciertas caracteristicas sociodemogrâflcas de los futurosancianos. Nuestras proyecciones, basadas en un anâlisis multivariado (modelo logit),demuestran la necesidad de un enfoque que tome en cuenta la renovation de generacionesdentro de la población de personas de edad.
