Par rapport à la migration en général et à la migration vers la ville en particulier,la femme africaine apparaît le plus souvent comme un agent passif, voire comme la victimed'un phénomène dont le centre de décision lui est extérieur. II semble pourtant que laréalite soit de plus en plus nuancée. Partir vers la ville peut être un moyen d'améliorationdu statut. Du moment que la scolarisation féminine est en net progrès un peu partout sur lecontinent, que la crise économique perdure en s'accentuant en milieu rural, et quel'ouverture du monde africain s'amplifie par les moyens de communication, la migration versles villes ira croissant et concernera autant les femmes que les hommes. Mais pour biens'insérer dans le milieu urbain et améliorer leur statut, les femmes doivent posséder unebonne qualification professionnelle et (ou) un capital financier important dès le depart.Les décideurs devront tenir compte de ces aspects de la question, plutôt que de soutenir desstratégies contre la migration vers la ville qui, pour le moment, restent sanseffet.In most studies on the relationships between women's status and rural urban migration,African women are depicted as the passive agents or the victims of decisions made by theirfathers and husbands. But times are changing. Rural urban migration can be a component ofwomen's status. Women are now better educated, even in rural Africa, and better integratedinto the modern way of life, and it is likely that they will be more and more engaged inrural Io urban migration in the next future. But in order to be integrated in the urban wayof life and improve their living conditions, they need to be better skilled and/or havefinancial capital. Therefore, instead of implementing policies to avoid migration, policymakers must develop comprehensive strategies taking this migration dimension into account,in order to improve women's status.Respecta a la migracion en general y, particularmente, a la migracion hacia las areasurbanas, se describe generalmente a la mujer africana corno un agente paswo, o incluso cornovidima de las decisiones tomadas por otros. Pero los tiempos han cambiado. La mujer puedemejorar su situación al emigrar hacia la ciudad. Considerando que la educacion fememna estaprogresando en el continente africano, que la crisis economica perdura, sobre todo en mediorural y que Africa se abre cada vez mas al resto del mundo gracias a los medios decomunicacion, la migración creciente hacia las ciudades afecta tanto a las mujeres corno alos nombres. Sin embargo, para poderse integrar de manera adecuada al medio urbano y asimejorar su situación, las mujeres deben estar mas preparadas profesionalmente, y/o disponerde un buen capitai desde un principio En lugar de seguir fomentando las politwas actuates,meficaces, contra la migracion hacia los centras urbanos, habrâ que tornar en cuent lasdimensiones antes mencionadas
