What light does this short interval of Quebec’s culturallife shed on nascent literary “institution” ? At a time when the Province of Quebec had hadprinting presses for only a very short period of time, when education was largely deficientand when the public sphere was only being put in place, were not those who were behind thisliterary gazette fantasizing about the creation of a Republic of Letters as the europeanmodel
