Cet article propose une réflexion sur les causes de l'abandon de la méthodologiequalitative dans la sociologie nord-américaine. La période historique se situant entre 1918et 1950 est privilégiée. Par le biais de cette analyse historique, ce texte entend, entreautres, contribuer — que ce soit indirectement — à offrir des bases différentes au débatactuel. En effet, il attire l'attention sur le fait qu'un véritable débat méthodologiqueentre l'approche qualitative et quantitative commence à peine à être entamé.This article examines the reasons for the abandonment of qualitative methodology inNorth American sociology. Selecting the period between 1918 and 1950 as the focus of thestudy, this historical analysis, as indirectly as it may appear, directs attention to thefact that a genuine methodological debate between the merits of qualitative and quantitativeapproaches has hardly begun.Este artículo présenta une reflexión sobre les causas del abandono de la metodologíacualitativa en la sociología norteamericana.
