Plus que dans d’autres domaines, le lien est étroit entre la société et la sociologie des relations interethniques. Le sociologue,malgré son ambition d’objectivité, ne peut échapper complètement à sa tradition nationale, même si ses analyses ne sont paspour autant déterminées par cette appartenance. Nationale par sa manière de penser les problèmes et par les enquêtes sur lesquelleselle se fonde — spécificité d’une discipline qui se définit par sa tension entre un pôle expérimental et un pôlehistorique — , la sociologie participe pourtant d’un projet de connaissance dont l’horizon est universel. Ce n’est pas en niantou refoulant la dimension sociale et nationale de la réflexion sociologique ni en confondant la sociologie d’un pays avec lasociologie en général, mais, tout au contraire, en assumant pleinement cette relativité et en la critiquant que le sociologue peuts’inscrire dans l’ambition universelle de la connaissance rationnelle.More than in other areas, the link between society and the sociology of interethnic relations is close. Sociologists, in spite oftheir concern for objectivity, are unable to completely escape their national traditions, even though their analyses are not determinedby this relationship. National in its way of thinking about problems and in the surveys upon which it isfounded — specificity of a discipline which is defined by the tension existing between a traditional pole and a historical pole,sociology takes part, nonetheless, in a project of knowledge-building which is universal. It is not in denying or suppressing thesocial and national dimensions of sociological reflection, nor in confusing sociology of one country with sociology in general,that the sociologist can take part in the universal ambition of rational knowledge, but, on the contrary, by assuming fully thisrelativity and criticizing it.El lazo entre la sociedad y la sociología de las relaciones interétnicas es más estrecho que en otros campos de estudio. Elsociólogo, a pesar de su ambición de objetividad, no puede escapar completamente a su tradición nacional, aún cuando susanálisis no son determinados por esa pertenencia. Nacional, por su manera de pensar los problemas y por las investigacionesen las cuales ella se funda — especificidad de una disciplina que se define por su tensión entre un polo experimental y un polohistórico-, la sociología participa sin embargo a un proyecto de conocimiento cuyo horizonte es universal. No es negando oreprimiendo la dimensión social y nacional de la reflexión sociológica, ni confundiendo la sociología de un país con la sociologíaen general, sino asumiendo plenamente esa relatividad y criticándola, que la sociología puede inscribirse en la ambiciónuniversal del conocimiento racional
