Avec latransformation de l'institution de l'emploi des femmes, les risques d'une telle stratégiesont suffisamment importants pour forcer les féministes à engager une réflexion fondamentaleau sujet des politiques de sécurité sociale à promouvoir pour améliorer véritablement lestatut économique des femmes.The ways that social assistance confers rights and responsibilities reflects a cleargender logic. By means of an historical analysis of the changing employment requirementsimposed on poor mothers receiving social assistance, the author provides a criticalassessment of feminist strategies that seek recognition for women's unpaid work within thesocial assistance regime. Given the transformations in women's employment that haveoccurred, the risks of such a strategy are sufficiently high that they compel feminists toserious thinking about the kinds of income security policies that would make a realcontribution to improving women's economic autonomy
