This study aims to investigate the vocabulary\udlearning strategies used by Arabic learners of the\udInternational Islamic University Malaysia. It also\udcompares between the Arabic and non-Arabic\udmajoring students in the use of these strategies.\udThe total sample of this study was 248 university\udstudents from different level of studies. They\udanswered a ‘Vocabulary Learning Strategies\udQuestionnaire’ by Pavicic Takac (2008) which\udconsisted of three different components: Formal\udstrategies, self-initiated independent strategies\udand incidental strategies. Results indicated that\udArabic learners used a variety of vocabulary\udlearning strategies with translation being\udthe most widely employed. No statistically\udsignificant difference was found between the\udArabic and non-Arabic majoring students. The\udfindings provide support for helping the students\udto utilize their mother tongue in a fruitful way to\udlearn new vocabularies, as well as training both\udgroups equally on how to use these strategies\udefficiently
