Minqin Oasis is one bridgehead ofthe windblown-sand line in Nonh Chin& and also one ofthc most seriously desertified areas in China. The specjal geographic situation has decided its history as onc ofsand-control and water-preservation. Noticeable improvement had once been made in the area. Howeyer, as the changes ofnatural conditions, especially the shortage ofwater resources. the eco-environmerit was getting fragile gradualIM and desenification threatening the oasis's survival. Based on the analysis ofthe variation mechanism ofthe water resources in the oasis, relationships between the exp]oitation of water resources and the changes of hydroiogical cycle have been brought to iight. Then, eco-environmcntal problems are revealed as the fo11owing four fhcets: water quality worsening. deterioration ofecosystem. ]and degradation, and sandstorm weather evoiving rapidly and widely. The trend of the oasis's wane would not be easily reversed ifno practical and effective measures had been taken.
