The calix[4]arene ketocyanine receptors bearing nitro-, aminoor urea moiety at the wide macrocycle rim were elaborated. Their molecular structures, UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence properties were studied. The estimated solvatofluorochromism levels and quantum yield values demonstrate clearly a possibility of control of the fluorescence colour and intensity by varying the nature of the analyte bound in the proximity of the fluorophore ketocyanine unit.
