::\ ine brands of firebr ick, incl\l ding t wo high alumina . fou r fire clay, two s il iceous, and one silica, were subjected to creep tests. Specimens were cut from 9-ineh bricks. Creep tes ts, with eithe r tcn~ ile or compressive stre ses , were made at 11 tempera tures from 25 0 to 9500 C , inc lusive. Durations of tests were approx imately 240 days. Small length changes, independent of s t ress d irection,l occurred at t he lower temperatures. Lowest temr;eratures at which creep waR s ignifi cant were high a lumina, 7000 to 8500 C; fir e clay, 6000 to 700 0 C ; siliceous and silica, 9500 C. Creep result with compress ive s(res:cs co uld not be correlated with r esult s \yi t h ten sile st resses. At 9500 C , specimen. of different brands sho\\'ed greatly different capaci ties to carry load. Repeated heatings caused growth of silica brick . :\irodu li of elastieity at room t emperature were determined before a nd after the \'arious heat treatments, and resultant changes in modu l i a re r ecorded . The changes were la rge for s ilica brick and small for th e fire-cla y brick .
