A quantitative method for the determination of cellulose-acetate rayon, silk, regenerated-cellulose rayon, cotton, and wool in textiles containing two or more of these fibers is described. The textile is first extracted with carbon tetrachloride, and desized with a starch and protein hydrolyzing enzyme and by washing. Acetate rayon (acetone-soluble type) is removed with acetone, and silk and regenerated-cellulose rayons with solutions of calcium thiocyanate of specific gravity 1.20 and 1.36, respectively. Cotton and wool are determined either by removal of cotton with aluminum chlorIde and heat to leave the wool, or by dissolving the wool in potassium-hydroxide solution to leave the cotton. The method gives the percentage of each of the fibers present in the mixture to within 2 percent of the weight of the specimen analyzed. CONTENTS Page
