Haploid strains were isolated from two sporulated yeasts:Saccharomyces uvarum IZ 1904 being used for production of Brazilian rums pinga and Saccharomyces cerevisiae HUT 7107 having been used in industrial production of ethanol in Japan.The haploid strains were selected for higher fermentabilities at 40°C and 42°C.Crossing the selected haploid strains from S.uvarum with those from S. cerevisiae yielded a hybrid that produced larger amount of ethanol at 40°C and 42°C than the original strains from which it had been isolated.
