中国における体育・スポーツ社会学的研究が改革・開放の時代に始まったが, 本報告は, その発展の背景と足跡を顧みながら, 今日の中国における体育・スポーツ社会学研究の基本的特徴を明らかにするとともにそれぞれの時期の理論的研究・社会調査などの代表的な成果を紹介しながら若干の総括を行うものである。なお, その上に新しい中国の歴史的発展段階における体育・スポーツの役割の転換, 体育・スポーツ界改革に果たすべき社会学的研究の基盤, 経済発展と体育・スポーツの関係等についてふれながら社会科学としての体育・スポーツ社会学研究が果たすべき歴史的使命について論じる。
