塩素系溶剤および塩素系樹脂などの塩素化炭化水素を含む廃棄物を焼却処理する工場をモデルに, 塩素化炭化水素の分解および生成に関する解析を行ない, 以下のことがわかった。(1) 廃棄物焼却処理施設から発生する低沸点塩素化炭化水素のほとんどはガス中に分散し, 煙突から大気中に放出される。(2) 焼却による塩素化炭化水素の分解は, 塩素化炭化水素を含んでいる媒体の影響を強く受ける。すなわち, 媒体が容易に燃焼する時, 塩素化炭化水素は容易に分解するが, その逆の時は分解率が低下する。(3) 廃プラスチックの焼却処分のような恒常的な処理工程から塩素化炭化水素等の有害化学物質が生成され, 大気環境中に放出されている。
