Gonydactylus paradoxus sp. nov from a small off-shore island in South Vietnam distinctly differs from all other known species of the genus Gonydactylus in the absence of preanal and femoral pores in males and females. The occurrence in a new insular species of a feature so unusual for the genus Gonydactylus may be an external manifestation of founder effect sensu E. Mayr ( 1942).

A new gecko of the genus Gonydactylus (Sauria: Gekkonidae) with a key to the species from Vietnam
