The work of Leopoldo Panero written during hisfirst poetic phase (about 1929-1940) presents a wide range of formaland stylistic variety. It is possible to notice clearly two distincttrends: an avant-garde one, which is metrically characterized bythe use of free verse, and a more intimate poetry, closer to his later work, which is associated with regular versification and the useof traditional strophic forms. The analysis of his “Primeros poemas”and “Versos al Guadarrama” may give an overview for thesetwo different forms of versification and the importance of metricsin this poetic stage of Leopoldo Panero.
