<p>La comprensión de las políticas educativas dirigidas a la atención de los indios en México requiere necesariamente conocer la forma en que esas culturas han sido vistas a lo largo del devenir histórico de nuestra nación. Planteada la educación como una de las bases para avanzar hacia un futuro de progreso y modernización, esa otredad representada por los indios habría de ser ajustada a los anhelos nacionalistas de homogenización, esto es, eliminación de las diversidades. La educación para los indígenas se ha debatido en las pregunta sobre qué hacer y cómo tratar a esos indios que, desde esa perspectiva, si bien son un símbolo de las raíces más lejanas de nuestra identidad, al mismo tiempo representan un pasado cuyo peso ha impedido a la sociedad llegar al futuro perseguido desde hace siglos.</p><p>The comprehension of the educational policies for the attention of the Indians in Mexico requires to know the way in which these cultures have been seen along to develop historically of our nation. If we think that the education is one of the bases to advance towards a future of progress and modernization, this otherness represented by the Indians should be in agreement to the nationalistic longings of homogeneity. The education for the Indians has been debated around two questions: what to do and how to treat these people who, from this perspective, they are a symbol of the most distant roots of our identity, at the same time represent a big burden for our walk to the future.</p
