<p>Resumen: Con la conversión del oficio de chanciller y registrador mayor de Indias a un bien patrimonial más las fragmentaciones en diversos propietarios que sufrió en la España de los Austria, se crearon fuertes intereses sucesorios entre varias redes familiares de la Nueva España y la Península. Los pleitos de sucesión entorpecieron el proceso de incorporación de dicho oficio comenzado por Carlos III. El presente trabajo es un breve resumen de esa historia y algunas consideraciones al respecto de los oficios públicos al final del antiguo régimen.</p><p>Abstract: The conversion of the public office of chanciller y registrador mayor de Indias to a private property plus their fragmentation among several owners during the Habsburg Spain, resulted in the appearance of many interests among various family inheritance networks in the New Spain and Spain. Succession disputes hindered the incorporation of the public office to the Crown started by Carlos III. This essay is a brief summary of this historical process with some considerations about the nature of public office at the end of the Anciene regime.</p
