大型豚による三元雑種の雄, 35日去勢雄, 雌 (同腹豚) を高エネルギー飼料と群肥育の飼養管理で肥育し, その発育速度と, 産肉性, 肉質について性別間での比較を検討した。発育成績は100kg到達日齢が雄豚は188日で去勢雄より4日, 雌より12日速かった。また一日平均増体重, 飼料要求率は性別で大差はなかったが雄が最も良い発育成績であった。産肉成績において, 枝肉歩留は雌が66.3%で最も良く, 雄は62.3%であった。また, 第5, 6胸椎間の胸最長筋断面積は雄が最も大きく去勢雄や雌より30%増であり, 赤肉量はロース断面から推定した結果では雄が61.5%であり, 去勢雄はそれより4%減少していた。肉質についてみると雄は去勢雄や雌に比べ赤味が強く, 保水性に富み筋線維が太く, また脂肪組織の融点が高い。肉のぼ臭による肉質の不良は認められなかった。
