Este trabalho traz uma comparacao entre os processos fotocatalitico e Fenton aplicados na degradacao, em solucao aquosa, do herbicida bentazona (BZ), principio ativo do produto comercial Basagran®. Os experimentos pelo processo fotocatalitico foram realizados com tres niveis de adicao de H2O2, e os experimentos pelo processo Fenton foram realizados de acordo com um planejamento fatorial 23. Para o acompanhamento de todos os experimentos foi empregada espectrofotometria na regiao do UV-vis. Com o intuito de avaliar a toxicidade dos compostos gerados pela exposicao do BZ aos tratamentos estudados, foram feitos ensaios de toxicidade utilizando o micro-crustaceo Artemia salina. O LC50 encontrado para o BZ foi de 0,454 g L-1. Apos a degradacao, foi observada uma reducao significativa na taxa de morte deste micro-crustaceo, sendo que o melhor resultado obtido foi com o processo Fenton, onde a porcentagem de mortes caiu de 42% comparado ao experimento controle. Abstract This paper presents a comparison of the photocatalytical and Fenton processes applied to the degradation of the herbicide bentazone (BZ) in aqueous solution. The experiments were performed by photocataytic process with three levels of H2O2 addition, and the Fenton process were performed according to a 23 factorial design. To the accompaniment of all experiments was used spectrophotometry in the UV-vis region. In order to evaluate the toxicity of the compounds generated by exposure of BZ treatments studied, toxicity of the compounds generated by exposure of BZ to the treatments studied, toxicity tests were made using the micro-crustacean Artemia salina. The LC50 found for BZ was 0.454 g L-1. After degradation, it was bserved a significant decrease in death rates of Artemia salina, and the best results was obtained with the Fenton process, which percentage of deaths lowered aproximadetelly 42% compared to the control experiment.
