<em>This is a pioneering study about Maria do Pilar Lagoon, whose physical and conceptual aspects that has given it the status of lagoon have been drastically altered by human interventions, imposing a new limnological classification on it, as well as a new name, Brejo dos Prazeres. This research intended not only to understand the transformation suffered by the water body in question, using maps analysis, photos, and studies from different experts, but mainly to emphasize the importance of this ecosystem today and the need for its revitalization and preservation.</em
